Service Prayers
(It is customary to stand during this ritual)
Reader 1. Numbers 10:10 Also at your times of rejoicing--your appointed feasts and New
Moon festivals--you are to sound the shofar over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial
for you before your Elohim. I am the LORD your Yahweh."
All: Blessed are You Yahweh,
our Elohim, King of the universe, who has kept us alive and sustained us and enabled us to enjoy this appointment with You.
Lighting of the Sabbath Lights
(Traditionally the woman
of the home is the one who lights the Sabbath lights. For Rosh Chodesh we use a seven stick menorah to set it apart and yet
symbolize that Rosh Chodesh is to resemble the Shabbot Sabbath.)
Woman of the lights: To separate Rosh Chodesh from the rest of the month, we kindle the lights in
the absence of the moon light, anticipating the presence of the Shekhinah Light of Messiah.
(Light the candles and wave hands over the them bringing
the light to your eyes three times repeating the first line. Then with hands remaining over your eyes recite the remaining
blessing.)
Blessed is He and blessed be His Name (X's 3)
Blessed are You O Lord, our Yahweh, King of the universe,
who has commanded us to commemorate the beginning of each month at the new moon. And who gives us Yahshua, our Messiah, the
Light of the world.
Woman of the lights continues: John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim,
and the Word was Elohim. He was with Elohim in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made
that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness
has not understood it.
Blowing of the Shofar
All gather outside:
Look into the nights sky to verify that the moon cannot be seen with one or more witnesses. Everyone with shofars sound
a loud and long turning once clockwise to announce Rosh Chodesh to all directions.
All: Blessed are the people that
know the sound of the shofar, O'Lord. In the light of Your countenance, Yahweh, we shall walk.
Leader: To all the Tribes of
Israel and the sojourners with them... Sh'ma chazarbee-teshuvah!
All: Return to observance and
repent!
